As part of Wine & Cheese Wednesday I want to introduce a new segment to the blog, Wine & Conversation!  In this segment I am going to be interviewing interesting and dynamic people to get their perspective on style, beauty and most importantly wine and cheese! I recently sat down with NYC based Fashion & Editorial Photographer Christina Emilie.  I met Christina about two years ago when I started City Luxe Style.  She is an uber-talented photographer and is responsible for most of the photography I use on this site.  Over the past few years that I have known her, I have grown to admire her not only as a photographer but also as a businesswoman and friend.  Check out our conversation below where we cover all things style, wine and business!

How many years have you been living in NYC?

Two and a half

Do you prefer red or white wine?

Red

What is you favorite wine?

Malbec

What is your favorite kind of cheese?

Brie and Feta

What is your favorite spot in NYC to get wine and appetizers?

There are definitely more than one! Currently, I’ve been frequenting Gizi Wine & Tapas Bar in my neighborhood in Long Island City.

How do you see wine and style coming together?

Wine and fashion coexist on many levels. They both are made from combinations of styles and flavors, from simple to complex. As a woman who loves style and wine, they go hand-in-hand in my social and work life. First impressions are everything, sometimes I’m meeting a client for a glass of wine and this is when I get to play dress up in my closet.

What is your go-to going out outfit?

My go-to going out outfit tends to be my go-to outfit in general. My style overall is feeling comfortable but looking chic and put together. I don’t adjust much as I’m constantly on the go. If I’m wearing skinny jeans, I’ll usually wear a blouse or turtleneck, with a strong shoe and structured jacket to pull it all together. If I’m wearing dressier bottoms, I like to wear something looser and casual on the top! I’m always wearing some sort of pointed toe bootie and skinny scarf or choker.

What is your favorite thing about living in NYC?

Being exposed to so many types of people every day of the week. Also not having to rely on a car and being able to walk places.

What is your favorite brand to wear?

Right now I’m wearing most of my bottoms and tops from Simple Retro.

What do you think is the one thing every girl needs in her closet?

A great jacket. You can wear literally anything; add a jacket and it’s an entirely new finished look.

What is your favorite thing about running your own business?

Having the freedom freelancing offers.

What are the biggest challenges you face as a business owner?

Wearing too many hats! There’s days where I wish I could just be the “photographer” of the company and not the accountant, marketing department, photo editor, or office manager. But, that comes with the territory and I wouldn’t trade it in for anything.

What or who (besides me of course ;-)) is your favorite thing to photograph? And why?

Haha I like what you did there! My favorite subject has always been people. It’s why I pursued photography from the beginning.

Where do you get your inspiration?

By observing the world around me. My best trait is listening, so I use that to get inspired.

What advice do you have for aspiring photographers?

Let people know you are a photographer and remember, there are no rules!
