Wine & Cheese: Decoy Cabernet Sauvignon

If I had to pick a favorite cheese, I would most likely pick cheddar.  In fact, I'd be willing to bet that cheddar is universally loved by pretty much everyone.  Whenever I make a cheese plate for a party I always include cheddar for those who may not be adventurous enough to try other cheeses.  Today I am featuring two new cheddar cheeses and a cabernet sauvignon that is perfect for any party.  The first cheese on the left is by Kilchurn Estate.  It is a caramelized onion cheddar cheese.  They make it by mixing caramelized onions with notes of cinnamon and clove to create a sweet and savory flavor between chunks of mild, creamy cheddar cheese.  If you like onions, then you will die over this cheese!  The other cheese is a Trader Joe's New Zealand Grass Fed Sharp Cheddar.  I found this cheese to be pretty mild for a sharp cheddar, but it really balanced out the bolder caramelized onion cheese perfectly.  Paired with this classic Decoy Vineyards cabernet, this cheese plate is a party pleaser!

What The Experts Say:

From its deep ruby and violet hue to its enticing fruit-forward aromas of blackberry, currant and black cherry, this wine showcases what we love about great Sonoma County Cabernet Sauvignon. On the palate, the lush fruit is balanced by smooth, rich tannins and lovely layers of spice, cocoa and hints of sweet and toasty French oak.

What I Say:

This is a classic cabernet that has quickly become one of my go-to wines.  It is so smooth and has a rich fruity flavor with just a hint of cocoa.  For the price, this wine is a must try!
