Best Places To Grab A Drink In NYC

 best drink spots in NYC

One of the things that I love most about NYC is that there are endless options when it comes to places to grab a drink or a great meal.  Over the past five years that I have lived in this area, I have been fortunate to try a lot of different spots and today I am sharing my picks for the best places in NYC to grab a drink.  Whether it is on a hot summer day or post-work cocktails, all of these places offer a unique setting and extensive drink menu.  Cheers!

  • Azul (Soho) - If you are looking for a rooftop bar with sweeping 360 degree views of lower Manhattan, then this place is for you!  Azul is located on the top of the luxury boutique Hotel Hugo.  Despite being part of this luxurious hotel setting, the bar itself has a laid back feel with a Havana theme.  The drinks are a little pricey, but the view and overall vibe makes it worth it!
  • Buvette (West Village) - This cozy West Village restaurant instantly transports you to a tiny wine bar in Paris.  I love the decor and European feel to this neighborhood spot.  Grab a seat by the window for some great people watching as you enjoy your glass of wine!
  • Locanda Verde (TriBeca) - This chic Italian TriBeca restaurant is one of my favorite places to eat and grab a drink in the city.  The atmosphere is warm and inviting with an upscale feel.  They have a great wine list and serve one the the best bloody mary cocktails I've ever tasted.  The food is also amazing if you decide to stick around and eat.  Oh, and keep your eyes peeled for celebrities mixed in with the crowd!
  • The Dutch (Soho) - One of my favorite things to do after a day of walking around Soho is to stop into The Dutch for a glass of wine and a little cheese.  My favorite spot is at the window seats at the side of the bar.  These seats offer amazing people watching and are even better in the spring and summer when the windows are open to the outside.
  • The Standard Biergarten (Meatpacking) - Tucked under the High Line The Standard Biergarten is part of The Standard hotel, serving up traditional German beer and cuisine in a casual open air setting.  I love the relaxed vibe of this spot and even more importantly, I love being able to play ping pong in the middle of all of the action!  I am not a big beer drinker, but something about this place always gets me in the spirit!  If you want to skip the beer, there is also a full service bar serving up wine and other cocktails.

Things I Love: Motivational Books

 Motivational books

One of my resolutions for this year is to read at least one chapter a day of a book that is going to help me in one of following three categories: business, spiritually or health.  I find it very motivational learn what other successful people have done to get where they are or any tips and tricks to improving my life in some way.  I have always liked to read, but I tend to be very streaky when it comes to reading.  I'm the type of person who reads a bunch of books in a row and then will go a long time without reading anything.  That is why my new resolution is to read one chapter a day.  This forces me to be consistent and it's easy enough to manage.  Today I wanted to share with you a few books that I have recently read or am currently reading that I really enjoy.    We all need a little motivation sometimes and these books are a great place to start!

  • The Universe Has Your Back by Gabrielle Bernstein - This book is great for anyone who is struggling with a particular issue or wants to get more perspective on how to create the life you want to live.  It is a positive read with lots of practical advice that you can apply to everyday life.
  • The Living Clearly Method  by Hilaria Baldwin - Another one of my goals this year is to improve my yoga practice. In this book yoga expert Hilaria Baldwin shares her tips on how to live a clearer life by incorporating yoga into your daily practice. The book is filled with different yoga sequences, tips on managing stress and healthy recipes.
  • The Choose Yourself Guide to Wealth by James Altucher - This book is a great read regardless of where you stand financially. Serial entrepreneur James Altucher outlines the exact steps he has taken to starting successful businesses and making money.
  • Creative Visualization by Shakti Gawain - This book explains how to use mental imagery and affirmations to produce positive changes in your life.   It contains meditations and exercises aimed at producing positive change and improving overall health.
  • The Power of Broke by Daymond John -  Best known for being one of the sharks on the hit show Shark Tank, Daymond gives background on how he got his start and offers his top tips for anyone looking to start a business.
  • Wellth by Jason Wachob - In this book former Wall Street executive Jacob Wachob talks about his path from quitting his stressful and unfulfilling Wall Street job to starting his own wellness journey which led him start one of the most successful online health communities.  Jacob outlines what a truly wellthy existence is and that is one in which happiness is attainable, health is paramount, and daily living is about abundance.

Enjoy!

Things I Love: My Favorite Blogs

 my favorite blogs

It probably comes as no surprise that I am a big fan of blogs.  As a blogger myself, I really respect the process of creating content and there are so many great blogs out there on just about every subject imaginable.  Blogs have become one of my go-to resources for inspiration, information and humor.  I follow a lot of blogs, but today I am sharing some of my favorites that I check out every week.

  • Love & Knuckles -  This is a super funny blog by comedian Kate Casey.  My favorite part about this blog are the show recaps Kate does on the Real Housewives, Vanderpump Rules and The Bachelor.  Kate's dry wit and hilarious observations are always so spot on!  If you are a Real Housewives or Bravo fan in general, head over to her blog for some major LOL's.
  • Whats Gaby Cooking - I really like to cook, but a lot of times I find myself in a major rut making the same things over and over again (my go-to is breaded Italian chicken and rice). This food blog by LA based blogger Gaby is my favorite place to head for dinner inspiration.  She always posts interesting and super tasty recipes and I like that she has a large variety of options from super healthy to indulgent.
  • Something Navy -  Arielle Charnas is the blogger behind Something Navy, one of my favorite fashion and beauty blogs.  She has a shoe collection to die for and always puts together interesting and super chic looks.
  • Into the Gloss -  I love this blog for everything beauty related.  From new product reviews to going into the makeup bags of celebrities and notable influencers, this is one of my favorite beauty blogs to visit.
  • Sweatshirts and Dresses -  This Dubai based lifestyle blogger is one of my favorites to follow for fashion inspiration.  Her style is a lot different than mine, but I really appreciate the way she puts things together.  She wears colorful looks and always has the most coveted luxury items of the moment.
  • James Altucher Blog - James Altucher is one of my favorite entrepreneurs to follow because he always gives practical business advice.  I check out his blogs for motivation and tips on business, finance and living a full life.
  • Yoga by Candace - One of my 2017 goals is to expand my yoga practice.  I am not exactly the most graceful yogi, but I do think it is one of the best things you can do for your body no matter what your age is.  This blog is great for both beginners and advanced yogis for instructional videos and motivation.

Things I Love: Podcasts

 the best podcasts

Over the past year, podcasts have started to become a mainstream form of entertainment.  I didn't even know about podcasting until I saw excerpts from a podcast interview in an article I was reading and I figured I would check it out.  Ever since, I have been a huge fan and loyal listener.  It is a fun alternative to listening to music and a great way to learn new things and have a good laugh.   I listen to podcasts to pass time at the gym, while commuting/traveling or even just doing chores around the house! The best part about podcasts is that they are completely FREE, available to everyone with a smartphone or tablet.  If you have an iPhone, the podcast app is already built into your phone.  It is the purple icon with the radio tower symbol.  Once you are in the app you can search for specific podcasts or by the top charts (similar to iTunes).  If you have a Droid or other kind of smartphone,  you can listen by downloading an app like pocket casts.  There are podcasts on just about every subject imaginable including heath & fitness, entrepreneurship and comedy.  Today I am sharing my favorite podcasts that I am subscribed to.  Check it out below:

  • Anna Faris is Unqualified - Actress Ana Faris interviews some of her celebrity friends putting them through a series of bizarre games and giving "unqualified" advice to callers.
  • Juicy Scoop with Heather McDonald - Comedian Heather McDonald provides commentary on the latest pop culture events.  Her guests include other comedians and pop culture icons.
  • The School of Greatness With Lewis Howes - This is a motivational podcast where NYT best selling author Lewis Howes interviews notable entrepreneurs about their secrets to success.
  • The Tony Robbins Podcast - Self-help guru Tony Robbins delivers motivational inspiration and interviews a variety of guests who share their tips and tricks for succeeding in life.
  • The Bitch Bible - Funny girl and blogger Jackie Schimmel covers all things pop culture and shares her personal gripes and life stories.  Super snarky and funny. I especially love her Real Housewives recaps.
  • The Dr. Drew Podcast - Celebrity Doctor Drew Pinksy covers a variety of topics in health and wellness.
  • The PHP: The Perez Hilton Podcast - The most famous entertainment blogger covers all things pop culture and celebrity.  Pure guilty pleasure!
  • The James Altucher Show - Serial entrepreneur James Altucher discusses his keys to success and gives tips on building your business.
  • The Adam and Dr. Drew Show - Dr. Drew Pinksy and comedian Adam Corolla answer caller questions on a variety of life topics.  Dr. Drew's straight-edge advice and Adam's humor make for a great combination!
