Steve Madden White Boots // Rag & Bone Boots // Rebecca Minkoff Studded Boots // All Saints Boots // Tony Bianco Boots // Kendall + Kylie Boots

One of the best parts about fall besides apple cider is that it is finally boot season.   I absolutely love booties and this season there are so many that I have my eye on.   Some of the major trends are white boots, studs and patent leather.  I really love the white boot trend because it is a great way to add a statement to your look and gives a cool 60's mod style vibe.  My other favorite trend is patent leather.  Ever since I was little kid and got all dressed up in my dress and patent leather shoes for Easter Sunday, I have always loved this look.  These boots from Kendall + Kylie are super stylish and will look perfect paired with a white tee and leather moto jacket.  To shop my picks, click the links above and below.

Save or Splurge? Where To Invest and Where To Skimp In Your Wardrobe

One question that I get asked a lot is what I recommend splurging on versus what I recommend saving on when it comes to shopping for your wardrobe.  Most of us are working within a specific budget so we have to pick and choose carefully where we spend our hard earned cash.   Investment pieces are ones that you can use over and over again and will hold up against the test of time.  These are things I recommend splurging on because the cost per wear and quality will prevail.  Skimp pieces tend to be things that are more of-the-moment or trends that will most likely come and go.  These are things that we can almost always save on.  You wear them a few times and are ready to part with them when you get sick of them or they are no longer relevant. I like to take that a step further and say that in general regardless of trends, there are a set of items that fall into each category year after year.  Below is a fool-proof guide that I use when making purchase decisions.

Spurge Items:

  • Handbags - I am a handbag freak and think that a nice bag can take a simple t-shirt and jeans to the next level.  Not only does a nice bag look amazing, they also tend to have a certain level of craftsmanship and quality that will last forever.  To get the most bang for your buck I recommend leather fabric and a neutral color like black or brown that will go with everything.  Shop some of my favorites: Gucci Soho Bag // Rebecca Minkoff Bag // Chloé Bag
  • Shoes - To be honest until I purchased my first pair of expensive shoes, I always thought that this was an area that you could go middle-of-the-road on.  However, a nice quality leather shoe not only feels better on your feet, but they also hold up against all of the elements.  Whether it is a statement shoe or a classic pump, do your feet a favor and invest in a pair that not only looks good, but feels good as well.  To make them last longer, take them to a cobbler once a year for a tune up!  Shop some of my favorites: Stuart Weitzman Boots // Manolo Blahnik Pumps // Club Monaco Boots
  • Blazers/Jackets - A classic tailored blazer or leather motorcycle jacket will never go out of style.  These are pieces that you can wear over and over again.  Because they are so versatile and take up a lot of real estate on your body, I always recommend spending a little bit more on them.  Leather jackets are expensive, but a nice quality one will last forever and you can really tell the difference between real leather and faux.  Shop  some of my favorites: All Saints Moto Jacket // Rag & Bone Blazer // Madewell Suede Moto Jacket
  • Jeans - I live in jeans and have endless pairs in my closet.  Jeans are one of those things that always stay in style. In fact, even older styles every few years come back on trend so hang on to them.  I think that higher-end brand jeans not only have a better quality to them but also a much better fit.  Fit is everything when it comes to jeans so I am always willing to spend a little bit more on a good pair. Shop some of my favorites: Frame Denim Skinny Jeans // DL1961 Skinnies // Paige Denim Flares

Save Items:

  • Accessories/Costume Jewelry - When it comes to accessories I think that necklaces, scarves, belts and hats are all items that you can save on.  Most of the time these tend to be really trendy so this is an area where you can definitely skimp.   Shop my favorite save accessories:  Vanessa Mooney Choker // Rebecca Minkoff Belt // H&M Hat
  • T-shirts - Going back to my obsession with jeans, I also wear a ton of t-shirts.  I have learned over the years that even expensive t-shirts tend to get holes in them or become discolored after a certain amount of time.  I like to save on them and re-stock every year to get fresh ones that look really crisp.  Shop some of my favorites: H&M Short Sleeve // J. Crew // Zara
  • Formal Dresses/Evening Wear - Formal attire is something that I think you can almost always skimp on.  Unless you are Kate Middleton, you probably only need to wear a formal outfit a few times a year.  Chances are during those few times it will be at a wedding or work event where you will see the same people so repeating a dress is not an option.  I always try to find a less expensive dress on sale because I know that I will most likely only get a few uses out of it. Plus you can always make it look more expensive by pairing it with one of the splurge items above! Shop some of my favorite dresses: BB Dakota // WAYF Dress // Zara

Happy shopping!
